Essential Oils: Why and How I Use Them Daily

Today, I wanted to chat a little about one of my favourite tools - essential oils. You may have heard of essential oils but have never tried them yourself. Or, maybe you're already a big fan of them, like me!

If you’re not too familiar however, you may be surprised that if you look at the ingredients in your day-to-day skincare or medicines, you’ll find one or two oils on the list. It’s no wonder that they are so popular as they have actually been around forever. Essential oils were one of the first medicinal properties made from plants to promote overall wellbeing.

Essential Oils

Why do I use them?

During this time, where we live in the uncertainty of mixed messages and distractions, it is hard to feel grounded. For this reason, oils are my best friend.

In the past, I’d find myself rooted in negative thinking, stuck in a bad mindset with no idea or drive to escape it. Once I began using oils properly, I watched my state change in front of me. It allowed me to relax and be open about what was holding me back.

Though of course, they may not be everybody’s cup of tea, they have been historically proven to improve and manage states of being. In my personal experience, they have helped my own, and my clients’ - mental, emotional, spiritual, physical and general, overall wellbeing.

How do I use them?

1. Inhale - When breathing in the oils, you can feel an immediate change in state. Have you ever walked into a store or yoga studio and felt more positive, calm or relaxed? That’s essential oils!

The science behind it is that the oils unlock the limbic system in our brains that facilitate movement and memory.

2. Apply- Topical application (using oil directly on your skin) can be another excellent way to use them. In my experience, I know which oils are good for digestive issues, sore throats and headaches.

When physically applying oil to my skin,  I can feel my body start to eliminate what is stressing me out. This is especially helpful when I have trouble sleeping.

3. Ingest - Adding oil to hot and cold drinks, or as medicine, allows me to reap those benefits internally.

It’s a fantastic way to cleanse the entire body, from head to toe.

Often when I’m with my clients, once they are exposed to essential oils, that’s when they can truly relax. The properties within the oils can slow down their heart rate and allow them to articulate their thoughts and feelings.

Especially these days, it is so important to take a few moments a day to relax and reflect. Why not try essential oils? I’m always glad to recommend oils and share more of my own experience with using them. Drop me a line wherever is most convenient and we can have a chat!
