How Tarot And The Moon Connect

How Tarot And The Moon Connect

There are two major ways the Moon influences tarot reading: Its literal presence within its cycle and its symbolic presence in the card decks themselves. You can conduct a tarot reading at any time but it is always important to take note of which stage of the cycle the Moon is in and how that will affect your readings:

The earlier the stage of the moon cycle, the more clouded the reading.

  • You may find it is more difficult to conduct a reading on the night of a New Moon. With light that usually illuminates the sky missing, it will be more difficult to see the message the cards are trying to convey.

  • The Waxing phase is a particularly good time to ask questions about career paths or finances as you will be feeling most ambitious and will put the advice to good use.

  • The clearest and most powerful readings are done on Full Moons for particularly important sessions, try to plan ahead and book them accordingly.

  • The Waning phase is an ideal time to focus on relationships and social concerns as you prepare to begin a new cycle with a fresh state of mind cleansed of unhealthy ties

Even if you perform a reading for yourself or others in the middle of the day the influence of the moon can still be felt. This brings us to the presence of the Moon within the deck of cards, and the role it can play in your readings.

The Moon Card is one of the two cards that focuses on a celestial body (along with its counterpart the Sun) in the deck.

The Moon card in tarot is often depicted in the Full phase of its cycle high in the sky and in-between two towers. In the lower part of the image, a dog and a wolf are often shown gazing up while a scorpion is pictured making its way out of a body of water. The dog and wolf represent both our tamed and untamed emotions, and the Scorpio our subconscious dreams making their way up to the surface.

The moon card when pulled upright represents intuition, dreams, and your subconscious. When it is pulled in reverse (upside down) it can mean illusion, repression, and inner confusion. This card cannot often relate to suppressed emotions or thoughts that you haven’t processed or recognized yet. The Moon card will pull all those pent-up emotions up so that you can make any needed decisions and keep moving forward!

The Moon is all about trusting your intuition and connecting with your emotional self (for more on what intuition is and why you should trust it, check out my blog!).

Let the power of tarot and the moon card be your tool to help you reach alignment with your true self and emotions.
