A Guide to Winter Skincare

Winter is a fabulous season but there’s definitely something to be said about what winter can do to our skin. It’s no doubt if you’re reading this, you know the struggle.

The cold, windy weather coupled with busy social calendars during the holidays, can leave our skin feeling worn-out, dry, and looking tired. But not to worry!

I’ve got your ultimate guide to skincare during the Winter months ahead.

1. Give your skin (and yourself) a break - One of the main reasons we get rough-looking skin is often because we over-do it. From wearing a lot of make-up to forgetting to take it off at the end of the night.

For sure, we all want to look our best during the holiday period, but make sure to use make-up mindfully, maybe have one or two rest days a week to let your skin breathe. You’re all beautiful anyways, inside and outside!

I love using the Green Clean Make-up Meltaway Balm from Farmacy to remove my make-up at the end of each night. It smells and feels lovely!

2. Get your vitamin C and D - It may well be likely that you’re missing out on getting your vitamins during the cloudier and colder months. Vitamin D is something we surely lack from December to February - we all need some sunshine!

Same goes for Vitamin C. When we’re distracted by chocolates and pecan pie, we may forget to integrate fruits and veggies into our diets.

Make sure to stick to either adding citrus to your diet or take vitamin supplements such as Vitamin C and D tablets from NaturaLife. Vitamins can have an outstanding influence on your skin.

3. Add essential oils to your routine - As well as sticking to your regular routine (wash, cleanse, moisturize!), what about our good friend, essential oils?

I love love love essential oils, especially in the wintertime. I like to make myself a DIY face mask filled with good oils such as lavender, chamomile or whatever else I’m feeling if I want to rejuvenate my skin or if I’m craving some self-care.  Take a look at my blog about how to make DIY Facemasks using Essential oils.

4. Don’t stress - I have found that self-care is often overlooked during the holidays. This is a little bit ironic as it is the most important time of all. There can be an expectation to keep active, organized, and positive at all times.
Make sure you’re sticking to self-care. If you ever need a break from the business of making this the ‘best time of the year!’ for everyone else, why not take 5-10 minutes and do some meditation to relieve any stress or tension? Your skin will thank you for it!

5. Remember that clear skin is not the be-all and end-all! - I wrote this blog as I know first hand how tricky it can be to navigate skincare during the winter. That said, though you may get a few more spots or puffiness, there’s more to life than clear skin 12 months of the year.

Remember that beauty is more than skin deep.
