If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed from the excitement of Christmas, you’re not at all alone. The stress of Christmas, New Year, and lots of family events can be quite overwhelming, to say the least. If we add the pandemic to the mix, there’s a lot for us to process mentally and emotionally, which doesn’t always leave a lot of space for reflection during this time.

I don’t think it’s spoken enough about how the holidays affect our mental wellness. Remembering to take a few minutes of time out to reconnect and embrace self-care can be super helpful - so I want to help you out.

I wrote an article a while back with 8 Tips For Self-Care During The New Normal. I thought I’d do the same this holiday period!

Here are my top tips to embrace self-care:

1. Spend some time alone - not for the whole time silly! But do take a break whenever you need to. Perhaps go for a walk or do some exercise. Being around the family 24/7 can be amazing but also draining.

2. Keep away from your phone - Social media can be particularly frustrating during the holidays but also wonderful. Keep your screen time to a minimum to avoid unnecessary social envy and live in the moment. Your moment!

3. Enjoy your sleep - For sure, staying up all night, drinking too much, and singing Christmas carols till sunrise can be memorable, but maybe not every night. Keep your sleep schedule intact, it’s the best form of self-care!

4. Don’t stress, be blessed! - All in all, the holidays are an excellent time to remind yourself how wonderful your life can be. Remember to embrace gratitude, spend time with friends and family, and most of all, time with yourself!
